Primavera School, Inc.TO: ALL PARENTS AND STAFF WELCOME BACK! On behalf of the entire staff I want to welcome back all of our returning students and families to Primavera and to extend a warm welcome to all of our new families. These first days of school are going very smoothly, and we all look forward to a successful and productive school year ahead! We have 120 students enrolled this fall, a few less than last year. This has reduced our class size to 11-13 students per classroom which is proving to be ideal. It feels really good to all of us! PRIMAVERA PHONE BOOK: If you have any changes to your address or phone numbers and have not yet informed Roberta in the office, please do this right away. We are trying to get the phone book published and in your hands a little earlier this year so that you will have phone numbers and addresses for birthday invitations, play dates, and maybe even CARPOOLING! If ever there was a reason to carpool, this may be the year with the gas prices and the construction! NEW STAFF: We want to welcome our new afterschool staff to Primavera. Susan Florsheim is our primary afterschool teacher and also teaches Spanish to our 1st through 5th grade students. Cory Brunner and Sarah Snyder have formed the preschool/pre-k afterschool team. And finally, we want to welcome Michelle Holmes back to Primavera in the preschool classroom, after a two year absence in Phoenix. I feel very fortunate to have these new teachers joining our awesome teaching team at Primavera! THANK YOU! I know I speak for all our families in thanking Justin Scott (Primavera parent) and his company, Common Ground Landscaping, for their continuing commitment to keeping our grounds looking so beautiful! The weekly monitoring and planting of seasonal flowers makes our campus look so inviting and well kept! We appreciate what you do for us! COPPER BASIN RD./MOYER RD. UPDATE: The utility work along Copper Basin Rd. and Moyer Rd. seems to go on and on! The good news is that they have finished paving from White Spar to Hassayampa. Phase Two is well underway with the installation of water lines, sewer lines, and drainage culverts from Hassayampa to Copper Canyon. They will be building a retaining wall between Moyer Rd. and Copper Basin, doing the curbs and gutters, building a sidewalk on the north side, and then finally paving the road. There will be flag men at all times directing traffic in and out of Moyer Rd. to Primavera. Please allow a little extra time to arrive and then exit our parking lot due to possible wait times. Please use caution while driving through this construction. When they do finish, and I hope they will be finished with our road this fall, we will have a very nice and much improved road into our school. I have personally survived the construction in front of my house on Copper Basin, and we will also survive Moyer Rd. together! BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHTS: Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grades had their back to school night last evening. 3rd/4th/and 5th grade will have theirs on Thursday, August 21st from 6:00—7:00. This is an opportunity for parents to learn about the curriculum, the schedule, homework expectations, field trips, and volunteer opportunities. PRESCHOOL/PRE-K POTLUCK: All preschool and pre-kindergarten families are invited to a potluck supper on Wednesday, August 20th, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Please sign up to bring a dish to the supper. This is an opportunity to meet other families at our school and to see the other children in your child’s classroom. It should be a fun evening! INNISBROOK WRAPS CATALOG SALE: Our annual catalog sale begins on Monday, August 25th, and will extend over the next three weeks. Children will receive a catalog and ordering instructions to share with their families, neighbors, and friends. There is something for everyone, from gift wrap to chocolates, gift items to magazine subscriptions, and all participants will receive prizes based on the number of items sold. You and your out-of-town friends and family may order on-line by visiting www.innisbrook.com. You will need to register your student and use our student number for your student to receive “prize” credit. You will be receiving much more information concerning our catalog sale in the next few weeks. Be watching for your catalog packet on August 25th. I so appreciate your support with this and other fundraisers this school year! PRIMAVERA AUCTION: The date for the much anticipated event of the year, the Primavera Auction, has been set. The 19th annual auction fundraiser will be held at the Hassayampa Inn in the Marina Ballroom on Friday, November 7th, at 6:45 p.m. We will be auctioning a unique variety of professional and personal services along with custom items, gift certificates, and classroom projects lovingly hand-crafted by our own Primavera students! I am in the process of seeking donations of useful and unique products and services from businesses and parents for our auction. Please consider donating a product, service, or gift certificate this year! It could be something so special as cooking dinner for four people, tickets to a concert or sports arena, a weekend condo or time share, artwork, jewelry, etc. Mark your calendars now for NOVEMBER 7th and plan to do some holiday shopping at the Primavera Auction! This is an “adults only” event, so think about getting together with other Primavera parents and getting a baby-sitter line up early! PENGUIN COFFEE: The return of our “Penguin Coffee,” freshly roasted from Prescott Coffee Roasters, is forthcoming! Thanks to the efforts of our fundraising committee, the one-pound bags of whole bean, freshly roasted “Penguin Coffee,” will be for sale weekly for $10.00 per pound. Watch for the coffee sales on Thursdays before school. The “leftovers” will be for sale in Roberta’s office. SCHOOL PORTRAITS: Jay Grover, from “A Portrait Park by J” will be taking both class photos and individual portraits of our students on Wednesday and Thursday, September 10th and 11th. These school pictures will be used in our 2008-09 Primavera Yearbook, and reasonably priced portrait packages will be available to parents to purchase. Order envelopes from “A Portrait Park by J” will be in the cubbies the week of pictures. Your child must have an envelope with the money in it to order pictures, but ALL children will be photographed for the yearbook even if they are not ordering packages. SCHOOL CLOSURES: Primavera will be closed on Monday, September 1st for Labor Day and again on Thursday, September 18th for Parent Conferences. Please mark your calendars. PERSONAL NOTE: I want to thank our wonderful teachers and staff for their hard work and commitment to provide a high quality educational experience for your children this school year. I want to thank you parents for your dedication to the educational process as well. We all appreciate the opportunity to be a part of your lives and your child’s “growing up years.” Thank you for making the commitment to “Discover the Primavera Difference.” Please don’t hesitate to talk to me or any staff member about your concerns and/or opinions. We are all here to work together for the benefit of your child! My door is always open.
