Community Garden Project


Goals for Primavera’s Community Learning Garden / Edible School Yard

Students and Participants will:

  • Develop an awareness and understanding of ecology, biology, nutrition, and social sciences through cross-curricular activities and investigations.
  • Engage in meaningful and practical interdisciplinary, hands-on lessons.
  • Develop principles of healthy eating, nutrition, and physical wellness.
  • Explore concepts and crossover of sustainability and economics:
    • Natural Resource Conservation: Rain water harvesting
    • Local Reinvestments: School and community farmers’ market
    • Minimize Pollution: Organic gardening methods and local produce
  • Develop a deeper sense of self and their role as caretakers of their community (human and natural).
  • Learn about diverse cultures and cultural practices that have sustained human civilizations through time, connected to their unit of study.
  • Recognize the interdependence of human and natural systems through interactions and explorations of the life cycle and living systems.
